Dr. Lisa Plit has over 25 years of professional experience in sustainability, environmental law and regulation. An environmental lawyer by profession, Dr. Plit created South Africa’s first sustainability index in 2001, which rated the top 40 listed South African companies and was an advisor to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange when it launched its Socially Responsible Investment Index.
Dr. Plit’s experience spans across policy, law and legislative drafting and has focused on resource use and environmental impact of the mining and petroleum extraction industries in particular. She also has extensive experience in waste management, corporate sustainability, responsible finance, environmental education and corporate governance.
Dr. Plit has served on various boards and board committees both in the commercial and NGO spheres, and has been involved in the academic space, lecturing and writing on various environmental topics. Currently, she supports Oxford University’s Leading Sustainable Corporations Programme (offered by the Saïd Business School) and also serves as a trustee of the Table Mountain Fund.

Dr. Plit holds BA and LLB degrees from the University of the Witwatersrand, an LLM in Environmental Law from the London School of Economics and a PhD from Macquarie University in Sydney. Dr. Plit is based in Cape Town, South Africa.
